The name of the Ragdoll comes from the English words “rag” and “doll”, which in translation means rag doll. She earned this name because when you hold her in her arms, her muscles relax and the kitten stays hanging like a rag doll. They are characterized by their cuddly nature, when they fully enjoy the stroking in your arms. On the other hand, they are independent enough to stay at home while you are at work.
These are medium-sized cats, which can weigh up to 10 kg (tomcat). Thanks to its bushy and soft coat, it looks really big. However, it can reach a height of up to 40 cm, and after stretching from the paws to the tail, even more than one meter. The head of this breed is medium-sized, has a wedgelike shape and wide-spread ears. The hind legs are a bit longer, so we can say that it has a slightly hilly back line. The legs and back are also very strong and the tail gradually narrows towards the end.
Blue eyes are a specific feature of the Ragdoll breed. On the contrary, the coat can have several colour shades. We can officially divide them into Colourprint, Mitted and Bicolour variants, while they differ mainly in the type of colouring. Another specificity are kittens, which are born white and only after 3-4 years get their final colour.
The Ragdoll cat is characterized by its calm and supple character. Although it will last out until you return from work, it is a very social breed. If you spend a lot of time away from home, we recommend getting a cat friend for her. However, when you are at home, he will almost never lose sight of you and will always be with you. They are very playful, so it is important that you provide them with plenty of opportunities to play, even when you are just not at home. They like to spend their lives at home, but will definitely not disdain a properly secured run on the balcony.
They find their irreplaceable place in feline therapy, which is a discipline called zoorehabilitation and supportive treatment with cats’ contribution.
Although the Ragdoll is considered a problem-free breed in terms of health, all living things can be affected by hereditary diseases. This risk is greatly increased during breeding.
The most common diseases are increased urinary stones creation and cardiac hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, also known as HCM. It is the most common disease in cats and is caused by stiffness of the heart muscle. Fortunately, the disease can be diagnosed by ultrasound and genetic testing.
In our breeding facility we do not take this risk lightly and we test all breeding kittens.
A good diet is a basic prerequisite for the healthy development of a cat. During growth, it is important for the cat to have food available incessantly, we alert that the Ragdoll breed matures at the age of 4 years. In the next period, a diet rich in protein is important, and it does not matter at all whether you serve it raw, cooked or quality purchased food. A juicy diet with a high moisture content is an excellent prevention of urinary stones creation.
Ragdoll cats are very cuddly, so they get used to the comb or brush very quickly. Nevertheless, we recommend starting this procedure from an early age, various treats are an excellent tool. We guarantee that your pet will enjoy this care to the fullest.
Occasionally, especially at the time of hair change, the hair may enter the digestive tract. The elimination of bezoars can be supported by feeding cat grass or pastes and mash. A good protein-rich diet should be a matter of course.
At our breeding facility Ragdoll Ela we care about care. The cat is carefully cared for already during pregnancy. The quality food, appropriate care or examinations by veterinarians are taken for granted. Thanks to this, we guarantee the origin and health of our kittens.
